The immediate impact of the cap will be felt on a planned light-rail line between Durham and Chapel Hill.

    A Matthews restaurant manager was charged Friday for stealing a debit card number from a customer and using it to ring up $700 worth of unauthorized purchases, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Friday. Police said Ivan Hinestroza, 36, a manager at Tacos & Tequila in Matthews, stole the victim's debit card number after the victim used his card at the restaurant.

    Union County deputies say it all started when a K-9 handler conducted a traffic stop on US Hwy 74 between Stallings and Indian Trail early Tuesday evening in connection to a heroin trafficking investigation.     Twenty-five years ago Lupie's original sign disappeared during Hurricane Hugo, but last week Lupie's Cafe employees recovered the broken sign in Matthews, leading to questions about how it got there. A friend of one of the employees at the Monroe Road restaurant spotted the sign while jogging on the Matthews greenway about 10 miles away from the cafe and brought the sign in to the cafe.
