    More than $200,000 in federal funding will help the town of Massena keep snow off the runway at the Massena International Airport. U.S. Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced on Tuesday that they had secured $209,000 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration.

    Under a proposed new mutual aid agreement, tribal police from the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe would be able to act as special deputies for the St. Lawrence County sheriff's department when asked for assistance. The memorandum of understanding was unanimously approved Monday night during the county Legislature's Operations Committee meeting and will be voted on by the full board Oct. 3. The proposed agreement comes on the heels of a jurisdictional issue that arose after Eva P. Waters, Massena, was left with life-threatening injuries after her vehicle was hit head-on March 27, 2014, by a vehicle driven by Joseph A. Back II, Hogansburg.
