    The director of community development for the town and village of Canton says she's looking forward to continuing a partnership with Massena and other municipalities as part of an effort to develop a blueway trail to help promote tourism along the Grasse River. Linda M. McQuinn told Massena Town Council members during their recent meeting that she had been working with Thomas Sullivan, executive director of the Business Development Corporation for a Greater Massena, and Donald Meissner, the town of Massena's sport fishing promotion director, in the effort.

    Two Ogdensburg men were charged with driving while intoxicated in separate incidents Saturday evening at the Black Lake boat launch on County Route 6. He was additionally charged with using a vehicle without an interlock device, a misdemeanor, and driving without a license and failure to notify the state Department of Motor Vehicles of an address change, both infractions. Troopers were called to the boat launch at 8:20 p.m. by officers from the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

    One of the hardest things we do in our lives is part with a cherished pet as we recently had to do at my house. Duff, our special beagle man had to make the trip to the Rainbow Bridge and I have to say that between the vet, Dr. Swingle of Massena and the Evergreen Memorials, who does pet cremation, I don't think we, or Duff, could have been treated with more care and compassion than we were by both.

Treasurer Julie Sharlow told village trustees Tuesday that, on June 1, the village closed on 26 parcels of property off East Hatfield Street, from Hoot Owl Express Enterprises.

    If someone has the funding to make changes to their building in downtown Massena, it could translate to an exemption from any increase in the building's assessed value. Assessor Michael Ward said anyone who owns a building downtown and converts it to mixed use could be eligible for a 485-a exemption, which currently doesn't exist in St. Lawrence County.
