    Village police picked up Richard L. Schwartfigure Jr., 20, no fixed address in Massena, on a bench warrant at 3:16 p.m. Thursday at 47 Sycamore St. The warrant, signed by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson, alleged Mr. Schwartfigure had failed to report to his probation officer as directed. The probation department had also notified the court in a uniform court report that Mr. Schwartfigure had left the McPike Treatment Center after being caught violating facility rules by smoking on Feb. 9. Mr. Schwartfigure was arraigned on the warrant by Acting Massena Village Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, with bail set at $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond.

A multi-agency search and rescue effort was called off just a couple of hours after it started, as members looked for a boat possibly in trouble on the St. Lawrence River between Ogdensburg and Massena.

She was arraigned in St. Lawrence County Court and sent to the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, with no bail set.
