IVAC Executive Director Joni Hunt began the event, held March 22 at Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort, by saying the fifth annual luncheon had set an attendance record for the second straight year.

    At the urging of environmental groups over the past 50 years the San Geronimo Golf Course took various measures to improve their environmental footprint as far as salmon were concerned. These measures included, at a minimum, improving and repairing the fish ladder, improving fertilization practices and prohibiting golfers from entering the creeks.

Daiber, the Madison County regional superintendent of schools, is from Marine, a small farming community in downstate Madison County, which is 250 miles in distance, but culturally worlds away, from the state's Democratic stronghold, Cook County, where all of his rivals live.

    The Transportation Authority of Marin just voted to urge the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to study Supervisor Damon Connolly's commonsense proposal that the under-construction Richmond-San Rafael Bridge bikeway be used by autos and trucks during peak periods. MTC's current plan is that during a four-year so-called pilot period the old third lane on the bridge's upper or westbound deck will be used 24/7 exclusively as a bikeway.

    As watershed advocates, my group, the Gallinas Watershed Council, fully supported and applauded the Board of Supervisors' purchase of the San Geronimo Golf Course for restoration purposes. For me, one of the most remarkable testimonies at the public hearing was that of a young firefighter, who spoke on how healthy watersheds naturally cool and slow the spread of fires - unlike golf courses, highways or other fire breaks.
