    Two years and more than 3,300 miles later, a message sent by two Ocean County residents has been received. A one-line note scribbled with on a piece of paper, stuffed in a glass bottle and dropped in the ocean off Island Beach State Park in January 2014 has somehow reached northwestern France, according to repots.

    Striped bass reports are flooding in from Raritan Bay to Beach Haven as the fall run is finally underway in earnest. There's been an especially hot run of big bass on bunkers from Mantoloking to Ortley Beach, though the northern Shore hasn't shared in that hot action so far.

    Striped bass reports were very good today both in the ocean south of Point Pleasant and in the back of Raritan Bay, but there were few actual reports -- and my computer hasn't been downloading very well. The Cock Robin from Point Pleasant reported a boat limit of stripers to the south on live bunkers and jigs.

Building those beaches hasn't gone smoothly, though, as several Shore towns have resisted efforts to allow the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build wide beaches with tall, fat dunes.
