While most of the discussion was centered on Oklahoma's current budget shortfall, Ortega took time at the end of the meeting to discuss the passing of H.B. 1482, otherwise known as the Keep Oklahoma Children Safe from Illegal Drugs Act.

    The Navajo Lady Indians played one of their best games of the 2016-17 basketball season recently and extended their win streak to four games when they hosted the Mangum Lady Tigers . Although the Lady Tigers are well equipped to go toe-to-toe with any of the best teams in Class 2A, Navajo proved they are on a different level this past Tuesday in their 56-26 win over the Lady Tigers.

    The Great Plains Bank Tri-County Basketball Tournament began on Jan. 16 and by Saturday evening a men's champion was crowned. The Mangum Tigers had to beat the Navajo Indians , Cordell , and the Leedey Bison who are ranked second in Class B basketball.

    The Navajo Lady Indians showed their skill again in the semifinals of the Tri-County Tournament beating Leedey by a score of 66-58. Navajo's Emmy Cobb scored 19 points on 50-percent shooting, but Tabitha Armstrong led the Lady Indians with 20 points on 58-percent shooting, while dishing six assists and making four steals.

    The Great Plains Bank Tri-County High School Basketball Tournament got underway Monday afternoon at Western Oklahoma State College's gymnasium when the Navajo Lady Indians stepped onto the hardwood to take on the Snyder Lady Cyclones . In two head-to-head matchups, the Lady Indians averaged 73.5 points per game while Snyder averaged 14.5. Emmy Cobb was the difference maker for Navajo, scoring a season-high 30 points on a 75 percent shooting night.

    The Navajo Lady Indians junior high school team is slated to square off against Hollis for a third time this season in the semifinals of the Tri-County Junior High Tournament. To get there, the 11-2 Lady Indians went through the Snyder Lady Cyclones on Snyder's home court 28-17.
