    Words of collaboration and expressions of neighborliness between Mono County and the Department of Water and Power gave way this week to legal action as Mono County prepared to file a lawsuit against the water agency. The lawsuit is intended to stop the immediate dewatering of dewatering of irrigated leased meadowland near Crowley Lake and in Little Round Valley and, to require the agency to do a full environmental review before making changes to future irrigation allocations.

That means road construction delays, as many drivers trying to get north and south of Mammoth, especially on U.S. Highway 395, have already found out these past few weeks.

    An Orange County boy, age 15, has been flown to a Reno hospital after shooting himself, most likely accidentally, while target shooting with his 53-year-old father this morning, June 15, at the informal, second ,Mammoth Lakes shooting range east of the geothermal plant this morning. The nature of the boy's injuries was described by the Mono County Sheriff's Department in a news release as "severe."

Only "exception" vehicles will be allowed to drive into the Reds Meadow Valley.

    The Mono County District Attorney has released more information this morning, June 7, regarding a shooting incident yesterday that ended with there death of one Mammoth man and injury to another Mammoth man. According to District Attorney Tim Kendall, Malcolm Jolley, age 60, died yesterday following a struggle involving a firearm between Jolley and a roommate, Samuel Coner Gilman, age 34. The fight occurred at a Hillside Drive residence.

    One man is presumed dead and another hospitalized after a shooting incident in Mammoth on Hillside Drive, according to the Mono County District Attorney's Office. The incident occurred on June 6. At approximately 11:25 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, Mammoth Lake Police Department and the Mono County District Attorney's Office responded to a 911 call from an individual who had been shot in his residence located on Hillside Dr. in Mammoth Lakes, according to Kendall in a news release.

    Mammoth will be out a daily air service carrier as of Nov. 30 unless an alternative to Alaska Air can be found after on May 17, officials from Alaska Airlines informed the Town of Mammoth and Mammoth Lakes Tourism that they would be discontinuing air service to Mammoth Yosemite Airport, according to the Town of Mammoth. "Current daily non-stop air service from Los Angeles International Airport will continue through November 30, 2018," the Town stated in a news release.

    Mammoth Unified School District, in partnership with local agencies, will present an update and information session for parents and the public on the evening of May 8 regarding an incident in late April in which a Mammoth senior, Devin White, made significant and credible enough threats of violence to the school students and staff to trigger local law enforcement officials to arrest White on April 24. The arrest and preparations for the arrest caused the district to close schools that day.

    Numerous weapons, including an AR-15 rifle, were found at the Mammoth home of a Mammoth High School student who was arrested April 24 on charges of terrorist threats against the school staff/students. According to the Mono County District Attorney's office, the student, Devin Raymond White, 18, was arraigned in Mono County Superior Court on April 26. He pled not guilty to felony charges of criminal threats, and to possessing a shuriken, a weapon that is illegal in California, according to District Attorney Tim Kendall.

    Mammoth Unified School District called a Red Day this morning, April 24, at 6 a.m. and although the reason given at the time was due to a "utility issue," Superintendent Lois Klein sent a letter later this morning to parents and staff saying the real reason the district closed the schools is because a suspect/student had made more than one credible threat of violence to the students and staff. She said that the district then chose to close all campuses today, so that police could more safely apprehend the suspect.
