Firefighters on Monday worked to finish digging containment lines around the 1,427-acre North Moore Fire near Utah's Little Sahara Recreation area. Interagency Fire Center spokesman Adam Solt said the blaze, located in the Cheery Creek draining, 5 miles north of Little Sahara and 20 miles north of the Juab County town of Lynndyl, was 90 percent contained after nearly 80 firefighters - aided by bulldozers and water- and fire retardant-bearing aircraft - battled the blaze through the weekend. Southern Utah's Cherry Creek-North Moore Fire had topped 1,400 acres by mid-day Friday with no containment in sight. Interagency Fire Center spokesman Adam Solt said the lightning-sparked blaze continued to burn uncontrolled in the sparsely-populated area of the wind-whipped, rolling high desert hills of grass, sage and pinyon about 20 miles north of the Juab County town of Lynndyl and 25 miles southwest of Eureka - and just 5 miles north of the Little Sahara Recreation Area's main gate. Fire Incident Commander Brent Pulver said that campers in the sparsely-populated area of the wind-whipped high desert scrub oak, grass and juniper had been evacuated after the blaze erupted Thursday afternoon, about 20 miles north of the Juab County town of Lynndyl and 25 miles southwest of Eureka.
