    LAKEPORT >> In a North Central League I softball game where both teams held leads and lost leads, it was a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Kortnie Reynolds with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning that lifted the Clear Lake Cardinals to a 6-5 victory over the Middletown Mustangs on Wednesday afternoon in Lakeport. Regina Faalelea tagged up from third base and scored the winning run to give the Cardinals a nice bounce-back win following a 10-4 loss at Kelseyville a day earlier.

Bailey Couey's inside-the-park grand slam, which was aided by a Lower Lake outfielder, highlighted a five-run Kelseyville sixth and snapped a 2-all tie entering the inning.

HELENA >> Tianna Jardstrom won two events and Camille Donald picked up a first and a second for the Clear Lake High School girls during a season-opening track meet on Wednesday at St. Helena High School. Jardstrom finished first in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 41.2 seconds and first in the 1,600 with a time of 6:02.7. Donald topped the field in the long jump at 14 feet, 11 inches.

    LAKEPORT >> After much debate over two options, the Lake County Board of Supervisors has asked for further investigation before signing an agreement with Lake Indigent Defense, Inc. as the contractor for public defenders. Lake County's current contractor, Lake Legal Defense Services, Inc., gave their 90 day notice to terminate and will serve their last day on May 6. The company decided to end their agreement when contract administrator Angela Carter resigned from her position.
