After hearing in Loveland on Thursday and Friday about how Weld County has seen large and direct economic benefits from the exploration and production of oil and gas in Northern Colorado, while communities in Boulder and Larimer counties have sought more stringent limits than applied by state regulations, Jeff Robbins of Durango framed the task force's mission: "Weld County is not the issue we're dealing with when it comes to local control," he said.

    Construction contractors at the city's water treatment plant were sent home late Wednesday afternoon after they and some city employees were affected by a gas cloud deployed by SWAT team members training outside the plant. Loveland Police Chief Luke Hecker said the SWAT team trains monthly outside the treatment plant because that is where the department's shooting range is located - against a rim rock wall, which runs north to south with a high dam face from the Green Ridge Glade Reservoir running east to west.
