    Nearly 11,500 graduating students have been invited to walk across the stage in front of California State University, Northridge's iconic Delmar T. Oviatt Library to the cheers of family members and friends as CSUN celebrates its 2017 graduations, which began on May 13. An estimated 9,353 bachelor's, 2,000 master's and 47 doctoral degree candidates are eligible to take part in exercises, which conclude the morning of Monday, May 22, with the last of CSUN's seven commencement ceremonies. All eight celebrations will take place on the lawn in front of the Oviatt Library, located in the heart of the CSUN campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

Current LAUSD board member Monica Ratliff is running for the Valley's LA City Council's District 7 seat, which is also on the ballot.

    Law enforcement authorities and Muslim community leaders today condemned a series of letters sent to area mosques denouncing Muslims and warning of a pending "cleansing'' of America under President Donald Trump, and local officials urged anyone who receives such a letter to come forward. "I would encourage you, the community, that if you receive letters like this, please report them,'' said Stephen Woolery, FBI special agent in charge of the bureau's Counterterrorism Division in Los Angeles.

    Richard Gigger Jr., who directed the San Fernando High School marching band from 1982-99, died in his Northridge home on Sunday, Nov. 13. He was 87. Ellen Kaminer-Gigger, his wife of 21 years, said many former students came by on Sunday to say goodbye. "It was such a lovely, beautiful thing," she said.

The Feria is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at locations across the CSUN campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
