    Andrew Conrad Norwine, the last of three co-defendants to plead guilty in the 2012 slaying of Ronnie Joe Gammage, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a judge Tuesday morning after the charge against him was reduced from capital murder to murder. Norwine, 23, of Arlington, will not be eligible for parole under current law for 30 years, and waived his right to appeal the sentence assessed by 115th District Judge Lauren Parish on a plea bargain.

    Upshur County Commissioners Court on Thursday approved a written communication policy for dealing with the hearing-impaired, a move which County Judge Dean Fowler said means the county will no longer "be under the hand of the Department of Justice, which is a very good thing." Fowler told The Mirror someone filed a complaint against the county under the Americans With Disabilities Act in 2009, and the Justice Department investigated in 2010, the year the county made an agreement with the department to resolve it.

    Cheyenne Green swore in an affidavit nearly a year before she was slain that Jonathan Ray Shepherd had threatened to kill her, an attorney who once represented her testified on the opening day of Shepherd's capital murder trial Monday. Melba Baxter, a Longview family law attorney who represented Green in a civil proceeding involving Green and Shepherd's young son, said Green approved an affidavit on Nov. 13, 2012 saying Shepherd told her, "I'm going to kill you one day."
