    Downtown L.A. commercial real estate giant CBRE Group Inc. announced Nov. 12 it had sold a 159-room Courtyard by Marriott Long Beach Airport hotel for an undisclosed sum. The CBRE Hotels division arranged to sell the Courtyard by Marriott from franchised owner Mach II Chartres Long Beach, registered in Delaware, to Harbor Hotels, a family investor group based in Arizona affiliated with the Cornerstone Hotel Group based in Buena Park.

    The Port of Long Beach was approved for a $50 million grant to develop clean equipment and technology for various sectors of its cargo movement supply chain. The funds have been preliminarily awarded by the California Air Resources Board, and will be channeled through the Sustainable Terminals Accelerating Regional Transformation Project, a program that's part of a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars toward reducing air and other types of pollution.

    The number of cargo containers moved in the first quarter of 2018 was similar at the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach but compared to the same period last year, one port set a record while the other saw a decline. Three months into 2018, the overall container volumes moved at the Port of Los Angeles decreased from 2.2 million 20-foot-equivalents to 2.1 million TEUs, a 5.7 percent decline compared to 2017.

    Toyota Motor North America Inc. announced Thursday that it will build its first large-scale natural gas-powered plant to help support its operations at the Port of Long Beach. The Tri-Gen facility, announced today at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center, will be at Toyota's existing distribution center on port property and use natural gas to produce hydrogen, water and electricity to power its operations.

The unemployment rate fell as more people both entered the labor market and found work in October.
