The 2nd District Court of Appeal rejected Viens' claim that prosecutors lacked enough evidence to convict him, saying he "engaged in an elaborate cover-up of Dawn Viens' death, using her cellphone to send fake messages to her friends, enlisting his daughter to help, lying about her whereabouts to her friends and to the police, denigrating her character by saying she was abusing drugs and saying she stole money from their restaurant, and ultimately cooking her body for four days.
