    Due to the worsening fire danger, Burnet County Commissioners Aug. 6 approved restricting outdoor burning including activities such as outdoor cooking and burning cactus for livestock feed as well as welding and grinding projects without safeguards. The commissioners court took action in a 4-0 vote which essentially "ratified" a Declaration of Disaster and order Prohibiting Outdoor Burning issued July 30 by Burnet County Judge James Oakley.

First Responders from Burnet, Llano, Blanco, Williamson, and Travis Counties teamed together Sunday afternoon and continue to fight the fire off of County Road 116 as residents and campers from the area flee towards safer ground. Around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, a grassfire sparked off of County Road 116, better known as Hoover Valley Road, and quickly escalated to yet another raging wildfire for Burnet County.

    An 18-year-old Llano man sustained injuries of a busted lip after allegedly leading police officers on a high-speed chase that ended at County Road 122 at approximately 12:49 a.m. on May 20. According to Llano County Sheriff Bill Blackburn, 18-year-old Andrew Charles Spence Belew allegedly stole a 2011 Chevrolet HHR and begain driving with it. After his sister called the police but added that she didn't know where he was headed, police officers reportedly spotted him at in Kingsland.

Llano Police Chief Kevin Ratliff and former officer Grant Harden both were charged Monday, Feb. 26 with a count of official oppression by trespass, a count of official oppression by false arrest and a count of tampering with a government document.

    A 26-year-old Llano High School graduate remains in the Erath County Jail in lieu of $855,000 bond, charged with shooting a Tarleton State University student in Stephenville last week in what authorities are calling a case of mistaken identity. Shawn Patrick Layton was caught by the Region 6 Special Operations Group at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, in the 1100 block of West Hyman in Stephenville during the execution of a search warrant and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 less than a gram and possession of marijuana less than two ounces.

The agreement is in principle, said County Judge Mary Cunningham, but she said details still have to be worked out.
