    Assama-VI Koumou-Nete, aka David Koumou-Nete, 29 of Lewiston was charged with trafficking in Scheduled "W" Drugs - Cocaine, according a news statement from Bill Tapley of the Lisbon Police Department. Tapley wrote the arrest was part of a several month investigation into complaints of drug activity from citizens in the park.

    Brunswick and Topsham firefighters rescued three local kayakers from an island in the Androscoggin River on Monday afternoon after their kayaks overturned. The kayakers from Brunswick and Lisbon were in a single kayak and a tandem kayak downstream from the hydroelectric dam at Fort Andross owned by Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners, Brunswick Fire Chief Ken Brillant said Wednesday.

    At the same time Gov. Paul LePage was promising Lisbon residents he would take his campaign to end Maine's income tax to the people in a statewide ballot vote, lawmakers at the State House voted against his tax and budget proposals. Tuesday evening, the Legislature's budget-writing Appropriations Committee nixed an income tax cut proposed by LePage that would have cut Maine's corporate tax rate by $118 million.

    As the battle over the state budget heats up in the Maine Legislature, Gov. Paul LePage is heading to Lisbon to discuss his tax overhaul plan. The Republican governor will hold a town hall meeting at the Open Door Baptist Church auditorium at 26 Gartley Street at 6 p.m. LePage has been traveling the state to tout his ambitious plan to raise and expand the sales tax to pay for a massive income tax cut.
