    One hundred years ago, in the little village of Lindstrom, Minn., Charles A. Victor printed his first newspaper in the local blacksmith shop, according to "Lindstrom on the Lake," compiled by the Lindstrom Centennial Committee in 1994. Since most of the village residents were of Swedish ancestry, the newspaper was in the Swedish language.

    Lakes Area Police had a few calls related to four-legged culprits the past week...there was a racoon in a stormwater collection grate in need of assistance, and also causing some trouble were opossums thought to be ill or injured in Fairview Cemetery, and a couple dogs were detained as strays. One is a black lab with an orange collar picked up March 20, near Park Street and the other is a white German shepherd type dog, caught on Highway 8, March 21. Thursday, March 30, 2017 The Chisago County Sheriff's patrol apprehended a lady burglar Sunday, March 19 about 7 a.m. who had enjoyed a glass of wine and some leftovers from the fridge, with the homeowners in the house.

    Lindstrom City Council, minus Mayor Keith Carlson, had just enough votes to finalize an agreement last week with Chisago Lake Township on a contentious road improvement and trail project, involving 288th and Lakelawn Drive. The engineer said last week that the deadline for submitting information to utilize a $500,000 grant that Lindstrom won to help facilitate this project, is fast-approaching.

    There were just 31 voters participating in the Chisago Lake Township election March 14. Supervisor Sherry Stirling, was re-elected and Treasurer Judy Straub was also returned, with no challengers filing. The township residents heard there will be multiple recycling days provided at the township maintenance building: residents can dispose of materials April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15 and August 19. The local recycling firm Steel Chick is contracted to collect goods on-site and dispose of the items.
