    After a three-day trial, it took a Lincoln County superior court jury 20 minutes to acquit a Warrenton man of murder. The jury found Samuel Bradford Gray not guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and carrying a weapon without a license in the Dec. 30, 2016 shooting death of Derrick Brandon Smith, 30, that occurred during an altercation at a party at Fleming Lake Court in Lincolnton.

The Thomson City Council, on July 12, approved a recommendation from its engineering firm to allow Beam Site Prep of North Augusta, South Carolina, to make infrastructure upgrades to A, B, C and Clemmons Streets and to a portion of Walnut Street at a cost of $939, 780.32.
