This is the first year that the finalists from the elementary school Healthy Salad Competition and the secondary school Healthy Sandwich Competition will be combined into one event.

    It was wings up on Saturday afternoon for the eighth annual Wings and Wheels - a benefit to help support Pickens County Meals on Wheels. Hundreds of Upstate residents turned up at the Pickens County airport to see the classic and antique cars, grab a bite to eat, try their luck with one of the raffle drawings or even get an aerial view of the area by taking a ride in one of the small man air crafts.

Co-chairs Lions Lisa Carpenter and Tracy Morgan, their committee and club members appreciate the City of Liberty allowing use of the City Gym, the sponsors who provided health information and goodies and others providing fun activities at this event.

    An attempted traffic stop by Liberty police went awry Thursday night after the driver of a 2003 Chevy led police on an hour long chase through Pickens County that resulted in a deadly crash. According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, Nicholas Keith Blackstock, 29, of Greenville, ignored the officer's blue lights and instead attempted to elude police around 10:22 p.m. At 11:30 p.m., Blackstock crossed the center line while heading North on U.S. 123 at hit a Nissan head-on, killing the car's only occupant.

    The Liberty Red Devils bounced back in a big way following their first loss of the season, going on the road to face the West-Oak Warriors and bringing home a 54-0 road win. From the first quarter on it was the Red Devils all the way as they spent most of the first half in Warriors territory on both sides of the ball, highlighting the rushing attack and defensive prowess that has sustained the Devils throughout the season.
