    Two Fitchburg police officers were transported to HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster for what appears to be smoke inhalation after helping rescue a man from the window of a burning home on Holman Street on Saturday morening. Deputy Chief Kevin Curran said when the fire at 78 Holman Street was reported, the two officers were some of the first officers on the scene and helped pull the occupant out of the window.

    Kinder Morgan Energy Partners has postponed 12 open houses that were scheduled for November and December in order to allow stakeholders time to consider additional information about the company's proposal for a natural-gas pipeline, including altermative routes the company is considering. Kinder Morgan spokesman Richard Wheatley said that the extra time would allow residents, officials and others interested in the project to review new maps, environmental-impact reports and alternate routes that the company filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Nov. 5. "There was more information in those resource reports that we thought was going to be important to the stakeholders in the project," Wheatley said.

    A 72-year-old inmate, serving a life sentence, was murdered Tuesday afternoon in the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Facility, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. William Sires, convicted in the 1973 murder of his mother in Pittsfield, was found badly beaten and near death in a cell on Tier N1 at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
