A Northern Michigan Coast Guard helicopter crew on routine patrol captured some excellent images of the shipwrecks that dot the waters off Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The Traverse City-based crew posted six photos on Facebook showing the various underwater wreck fragments that were visible this week through the clear, blue water of Lake Michigan now that the winter ice has melted. An intoxicated Ohio man figured it was safer to walk across South Lake Leelanau rather than drive to the place he was staying. Sheriff's deputies found the "heavily intoxicated" 21 year old wandering North Manitou Trail and East Duck Lake Road around 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22. He had walked from Leland across the lake to the shore along East Duck Lake Road. Comment?
A woman who wanted to bond her friend out of jail on a drunken driving charge soon joined him after she was found drunk, parked in the sheriff's employee parking lot, police said. Police stopped a 31-year-old Northport man at 2:16 a.m. while he was driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Comment?
