    According to the public reprimand issued by the Judicial Conduct Commission, Embry, a Leitchfield resident, waived formal proceedings, agreed to the disposition made in the order, and "fully cooperated in the matter." The reprimand states the Commission received information during a preliminary investigation that, on June 20, 2016, Embry had an ex parte discussion with an attorney representing the father of two young girls regarding a case.

    The ordinance makes it unlawful to smoke in an enclosed public place in the City of Leitchfield in which "the public is normally permitted to be present whether for business or non-business purposes." The ordinance, per a summary prepared by City Attorney Kenneth Smart, was established after the City Council "found that secondhand smoke is hazardous to the health of those exposed to it."

  3. Woman airlifted after Falls crash -Read the original story

    A Leitchfield woman was airlifted by an emergency helicopter following a car crash on Falls of Rough Road on Tuesday night, Dec. 27. Prior to the crash, a 2000 Chevrolet four-door, driven by Brenda Saylor, 68, of Leitchfield, was travelling southbound on Falls of Rough Road when it left the roadway and went into a ditch, according to responding Grayson County Sheriff's Office Deputy Joey Beasley. The Chevrolet continued in the ditch for about 200 yards before striking a culvert, going airborne for several feet, crashing into the ground, and rolling several times, Beasley said.

    At around 10:46 a.m. on Wednesday, the Leitchfield Fire Department was called to the parkway Marathon, located at 611 Morgantown Rd., to provide mutual aid for the Caneyville Volunteer Fire Department on a burning semi tractor. Firefighters worked to extinguish the Freightliner semi tractor, which was parked in the rear of the parking lot, away from any structures and other vehicles.

Leitchfield Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson said she and Grayson County Tourism Executive Director Anya Turpin had previously met with Heartland Communications to discuss this matter.

    The Leitchfield Police Department was recently awarded a more than $12,000 Highway Safety Grant to continue its measures to improve safety on Leitchfield's roadways. The $12,250 grant from the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is broken down to provide $10,000 in funding for federal overtime for Leitchfield police officers, $1,250 for LPD personnel to take part in a highway safety seminar in May, and $1,000 for fuel reimbursement.

    Narcan is a fast-acting medication that officers will be able to use to not only assist someone who has overdosed on an opioid-based drug but also medicate officers exposed to such drugs, according to Leitchfield Police Department Sergeant Brandon Cook.
