    Thumbs-up to a new law that goes into effect July 1, which means drivers in the state caught without insurance could have their car towed and have the current fine tripled. Tennessee passed a liability insurance law in 1977 that requires all drivers to carry minimum levels of liability, but the new law triples the fine and carries a possibility of having the car impounded.

    A Wilson County jury convicted a Lebanon man accused of aggravated child abuse of his girlfriend's infant son Thursday of lesser charges. After eight hours of deliberation, the jury returned its verdict against Anthony Marlin Crawford, 24, at about 7:30 p.m. During closing arguments, Assistant District Attorney Tom Swink explained to the jury the first count of the two charges was for acute fractures, or those less than 7-10 days old, and the second was for healing fractures, or those more than 7-10 days old.

    Florida bass stockings: The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has stocked 950,000 Florida bass fingerlings in several lakes across the state, including Chickamauga, which produced a state-record bass in February. It was a Florida bass strain, and biologists believe even bigger fish will be caught in the future.
