The Missouri Highway Patrol's 27 newest troopers were reminded Friday their new lives will be much different from their old ones.

    Work to improve U.S. 54 in Camden and Hickory counties will begin March 27. Contractors for the Missouri Department of Transportation will resurface 25 miles of roadway and replace guardrail between the Niangua River Bridge in Camden County and Route D in Hickory County. The work also will turn the section of roadway between the Niangua River and Missouri 73 in Camden County into a shared four-lane highway.

    Defense attorney Kimberly Kollmeyer filed three motions Tuesday to dismiss the case against Aaron Fisher, who now faces a felony assault charge stemming from alleged sodomy of a 5-month-old girl in 2009. Kollmeyer's motion alleges violation of the double jeopardy clause and the right to speedy trial, as well as "res judicata," as the case previously had been dismissed.
