Thanks from Jeanette Phillips - Lawtey Recreation Department
A Thank You to the Citizens of Lawtey, I wish to express my sincere appreciation and Thanks to everyone that I have worked with during the past four years as a City Council Member for the City of Lawtey. Three of those four years, I was over the Lawtey Recreation Department, which gave me the opportunity to work with many people during various events. It has been a wonderful experience for myself being a part of this community. I would like to also offer my Thanks to the volunteers for this years Christmas Party. Zita Shuford, thank you for the delicious cookies and Nathon Blom and Shaun Ledman, thank you for providing the chili. To all the other volunteers, thank you for your help with serving the food, handling the raffle tickets and door prize tickets. The party, which was held on December 19, was our best one yet. We had almost 300 children show up to see Santa and receive a gift. This event would not have been possible if not for the generous donations and support that the Lawtey Recreation Department receives, nor without the Recreation Committe or volunteers! Thank you all! Special Thanks go to Helen Bohannon and Tatum Brothers Lumber for their donations of a big kids bike, each. Thank you to Carlton Jones, Lawtey City Council Member, for his donation of two small childrens bikes and to Farmers Furniture for their donation of a large wall portrait. These items were raffled off during the party. I would like to also thank Mr. Stuart for his donation of two children bikes as well as Sheriff Gordon Smith for his donation of a childrens bike as well, these were used for door prizes. Thanks again to Sheriff Gordon Smith as well as Starke Police Captain Barry Warren for their generous donation of gift cards. I also want to thank Dollar General of Lawtey for their toy drive which helped provide toys, which along with the gift cards were presented to families in need. Finally, I would like to say thanks to David Stegall for taking pictures during the event and for his time for keeping events posted on the community web site www.lawtey-fl.com! Thank you all again for allowing me to serve as a City Council Member of Lawtey and for the wonderful events we all helped provide to the community through the Recreation Department. Comment?
New CODE RED Alert system for Bradford County
Bradford County residents now have a new alert system that is in place to notify them via their home phoone, cell phone or business phone, of an emergency or other serious occurances in their area. This system was tested this past week when a stranger approached a child at Lawtey Community School. The child was smart and ran to a classroom, and once the Sheriff's office received notification of the event, Code Red was put into action. The system works like a reverse 911 system that will call out to numbers and provide a pre-recorded message. In the Lawtey incident, residents within a two-mile radius of the school were alerted to the incident along with a description of the stranger. Comment?
