    With Earth Day approaching, Clean Ocean Action has announced the semi-annual beach cleanup that will sweep its way through the borough once again on Saturday, April 30. Led by Council President Anita Zalom, the semi-annual Beach Sweeps will take place on the beach from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., rain or shine. Every year, COA, an ocean advocacy environmental group, organizes Beach Sweeps in the spring and fall in Shore towns including Bay Head, Point Pleasant Beach and Point Pleasant Borough, in addition to Lavallette.

However, according to an open letter dated Dec. 10 to the Mantoloking community from Mayor George C. Nebel, a special council meeting is scheduled for Dec. 29 at 5:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to gather public input on the project plans as well as to hear a report from an independent construction firm, Hollister Construction Services of Parsippany, The council passed a resolution authorizing the payment of $6,450 for the firm's services during Tuesday's meeting.
