    A Laurinburg man is in stable condition after being shot outside of a Maxton sports bar, according to Maxton Police Chief Tammy Deese. According to Deese, officers went to Authentix Sports Bar on Railroad Street at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday and found 35-year-old James Bethea had been shot once.

    The state Highway Patrol has released the name of a woman killed in a head-on collision Thursday, and three other people who were injured in the crash. Jennifer Marie Giddens, 29, of Wagram Street in Laurinburg, was killed when her Hyundai passenger car crossed the center-line on Shannon Road, colliding with a Dodge pickup truck driven by Ruby Ann Jones, according to a report filed by Trooper K.D. Locklear.

The editorial stated: "According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, there were 371 traffic deaths - about 29 percent of the total - in North Carolina during 2014 that resulted from someone driving impaired."
