Food for Fines Week, held last in 2003-'04, allows patrons to subtract a dollar from any overdue fines for each item of canned, nonperishable food they bring to the box in the library's front lobby.

The fourth grader has been chomping at the bit all school year to get her idea for a fundraiser off the ground - having kids pay $1 for a foot of duct tape that will be used to stick physical education teacher Dan Howard to the wall, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
