Weatherby Stadium, except one - the Black Bears didn't have a Coleman Bryson and the Mountaineers did. That proved to be the difference as Bryson rushed around, over and through Canton Middle for four scores, ran a kickoff back for another touchdown and either scored or passed for every two point conversion in leading the "Little Mountaineers" to a convincing 40-22 victory over their rival Black Bears in a key Blue Ridge Conference showdown.

    At a special meeting on July 1, the Lake Junaluska Assembly, Inc. the board of trustees unanimously voted to restore the bridge over the dam to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The decision followed two community meetings specifically held to discuss options for restoring use of the bridge over the Lake Junaluska dam after an engineering report showed the structure was unsafe.
