    A Volusia County deputy on the job for less than a year officially lost his job after an internal affairs investigation was opened against him, Sheriff Mike Chitwood has confirmed. Kenneth Long, who was hired Aug. 29, 2016, was fired Aug. 2, four days after his 11-month anniversary, in connection with a still-open investigation into whether he wrongly opened fire toward a group of people in some woods near East Kicklighter Road near Lake Helen, according to reports.

    Southwest Volusia residents may want to stay inside Saturday night as the National Weather Service office in Melbourne has issued a flood advisory in the area.  Up to 2 inches of rain has already fallen and an additional 1 to 2 inches is expected, according to NWS. Cities that will experience flooding are Deltona, DeLand, Orange City and Lake Helen.  According to scanner chatter, Orange city is "under water."
