    Thanks to money raised by an auction held Sunday, July 10 at Mountain Community Hospital's annual Le Grand Picnic, the hospital will now be able to purchase a much-needed articulating operating table, which comes with a price tag of $84,000. A reverse auction, one of three separate auctions held at the yearly event, raised approximately $84,000, just enough to cover the purchase a new Alphamaxx Articulating Operating Table.

    The Arrowhead Area office of the California Highway Patrol in Running Springs reported a dramatic decrease in driving under the influence of alcohol arrests during the recent July 4th holiday weekend, compared to the same holiday period last year. According to CHP Public Affairs Officer Juan Quintero, mountain area CHP officers made two DUI arrests during their 78-hour maximum enforcement period, compared to 11 arrests last year.

    Sheriff's deputies arrested David Anthony Gebase, 46, resident of Lake Arrowhead, for the alleged attempted murder of his wife on July 8 at their home in Lake Arrowhead. In a statement to The Alpenhorn News by a Sheriff's Department spokesperson, Gebase and the victim had been involved in a verbal argument over his excessive drinking, which turned violent.

    A 64-year-old hang glider pilot perished on Wednesday, June 29 when his hang glider struck a pine tree shortly after lifting off from the Crestline Soaring Society Glider Launch site located at the end of Playground Drive in Crestline. Firefighters and paramedics surrounded the tree as a paramedic ascended a ladder to assess the situation.
