    The Maui Fire Department rescued 14 tourists and two Lahaina residents stranded Tuesday afternoon by swollen stream waters in East Maui. Six people on the Commando Trail, in the Kailua area, called for help at 2:52 p.m. after they were stranded by flood waters.

Firefighters from Lahaina, Napili, Wailuu and Kahului fought the fire through the late afternoon and evening with the support of two helicopters, two dozers, and a pair of water tankers from the county Department of Public Works.
