Robert Bryan Mansfield, 61, entered his plea on one count of distribution of fentanyl - a painkiller considered many times more potent than morphine - resulting in death in federal court in Charleston, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The two-vehicle crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. Friday and involved a Buick Regal and a tractor trailer on U.S. Highway 78 near Von Oshen Road, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

    A Ladson man who set his former live-in girlfriend on fire earlier this year was sentenced Wednesday to a 30-year prison term. Circuit Court Judge Kristi Harrington handed Christopher Holmes the maximum possible sentence after the 42-year-old pleaded guilty to one count each of attempted murder and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, according to the 9th Circuit Solicitor's Office, which prosecuted the case.
