    The original version of the bill meant to address conflicts of interest at the Agua Special Utility District has resurfaced and was passed unanimously Wednesday by the the Texas House of Representatives. SB 814, introduced by Sen. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, D-McAllen, originally stated that if an Agua SUD board director is an employee of another taxing entity within the district, the board may not hire an elected official of that taxing agency to work within the utility district.

Incumbent Esperanza "Espie" Ochoa was trailing with 49.79 percent of the vote against Team L1berty candidate Armin Garza, currently a commissioner for the city of PeA itas, who had 50.21 percent of the votes.

Agua SUD officials challenged an open records request for the final report that was made by The Monitor.
