A woman who was sexually assaulted by a La Joya Police dispatcher while in custody filed a federal lawsuit last week against the cities of La Joya and PeA itas and several of its officers for failing to provide medical attention after she reported she was assaulted. The federal lawsuit stems from an incident May 29, 2014, when La Joya telecommunications officer Felipe Santiago Peralez III, then a dispatcher with La Joya police, assaulted the woman, who was arrested by PeA itas Police and placed in jail in La Joya earlier that day because PeA itas does not have a jail of its own.
