    San Mateo County sheriff's deputies suspect a goat at a La Honda ranch was killed by a mountain lion Sunday morning, according to the county's Office of Emergency Services. Deputies responded to a report of an Alpine goat found dead at a ranch in the 7500 block of Alpine Road around 10:30 a.m. Personnel from the state Department of Fish and Wildlife were also notified and came to the ranch.

    For the second week in a row, the California Department of Transportation at the last minute on March 10 postponed spraying herbicides along Highway 84 west of Skyline Boulevard, due to weather. Caltrans spokeswoman Gidget Navarro said Caltrans will now spray on March 17 and 24, both Tuesdays, between Skyline Boulevard and Stage Road, about one mile east of Highway 1, on the westbound side of 84 , with no spraying between Hildebrand and Pescadero roads.

    A memorial service was held March 5 for Nancy Elizabeth Glass of La Honda, who died Feb. 24. She was 87. Interment followed at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto. Ms. Glass was an active volunteer in La Honda, supporting junior rodeos, the fire brigade and the 4-H Club, according to her family.
