Internationally recognized for her research in Alzheimer's disease and vascular cognitive impairment, Chui is the principal investigator for the Alzheimer Disease Research Center, funded by the National Institute on Aging, and is the author of more than 120 publications in her field. During the seminar, she will share the latest research on Alzheimer's disease and offer tips for improving cognitive health.

    La Caada Flintridge city officials advised residents on Friday to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites after the West Nile Virus was discovered in a mosquito sample collected inside city limits by the Greater Los Angeles Vector Control District. A release issued by the city on Friday said the sample was taken in the southeastern portion of La Caada as part of the district's ongoing disease surveillance program.

    The La Caada Flintridge City Council discussed Tuesday increasing the cap on property tax reductions guaranteed by the Mills Act, a state incentives program designed to encourage the restoration and preservation of historic, privately owned properties. When the city began accepting Mills Act applications for Fiscal Year 2013-14 tax breaks, it instituted a cumulative cap of $10,000, city staffer Harriet Harris told the council.

    Putting to bed long-standing issues over an Inverness Drive home city staff says was not constructed in compliance with city mandates, La Caada Flintridge City Council members ruled Tuesday the project does substantially conform to previously approved plans. In a 4-1 vote, with Councilwoman Terry Walker the lone voice of dissent, the panel overturned an April 28 Planning Commission ruling which stated the home and surrounding yard at 1204 Inverness Drive did not comply with prior iterations of an agreement, passed in a 2010 City Council resolution.

    The next meeting of the La Caada Flintridge City Council, set for Tuesday, July 21, at 6 p.m., will be the first to reflect the a meeting time and day approved by council members in May. In a May 4 meeting, the council passed a resolution changing the day and time of its regular meetings from the first and third Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. to the first and third Tuesdays at 6 p.m. The move followed the departure of former Councilman Don Voss, whose service on another panel conflicted with a Tuesday 6 p.m. meeting time, City Manager Mark Alexander explained in the May meeting.

A video surveillance camera on the property showed the crime was committed by four suspects, who are currently still at-large.
