    Despite previously saying he looked forward to his day in court, Kulpmont Mayor Bernard Novakoski, rather than go through with a preliminary hearing, accepted a plea deal Wednesday for allegedly threatening to shoot and kill a Pottsville area contractor. Novakoski pleaded guilty to a summary citation of disorderly conduct and was sentenced by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones to pay a $300 fine plus court costs.

    A Knoebels Amusement Resort worker has been charged with theft after allegedly stealing from a food stand Labor Day weekend. Locust Township Police charged Bret M. Casper, 19, of 1013 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, with two counts each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property after allegedly stealing $200 from the park's funnel cake stand Aug. 30 and 31. According to court documents filed by Locust Township Police Patrolman Paul Hilliard, police were called to the park on Aug. 31 by park security when the food stand manager reported a theft of one-dollar bills.
