    A 65-year-old Kihei man was killed Wednesday when the truck he was driving drifted off Mokulele Highway on Maui and hit a concrete bridge abutment. Maui police said Dennis Witt was not wearing his seat belt when he died at 5:39 p.m. The cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Fire officials said the victim was hiking with a friend along a trail off of Iao Valley Road when her friend slipped, slid down an embankment and disappeared over the edge of a cliff into the stream around 4 p.m. Firefighters descended toward the 25-year-old Kihei woman and found her at the bottom of a steep 50- to 60-foot slope.
