    Wednesday at 10:20 p.m. Jeffrey M. Gaston, 58, of Penfield was driving a 2006 Buick Lacrosse west on the Quehanna Highway in Karthaus Township when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a left curve, went off the road and struck a stone embankment. He was not wearing a seat belt and was transported by Karthaus Ambulance to UPMC Altoona for treatment of injuries of unknown severity.

He received a $100 fine, is to refrain from the use and possession of alcohol and controlled substances, not enter any establishment that primarily sells, provides or permits alcohol, have no contact with the victim or family, complete 100 hours of community service, complete anger management counseling and not own or possess narcotics or prescriptions for narcotics without first receiving written permission of his probation officer.

    Sunday at approximately 1:45 p.m. state police were contacted about items that were stolen from a vehicle at 10339 Mahaffey Grampian Highway, Penn Township. Someone stole a black Savage Axis 25-06 rifle, a black barreled Remington 870 shotgun with a camo-colored stock, a 440 Stihl chainsaw and several hand tools.

    The Board of Directors of the Clearfield County Historical Society have announced the society will receive and permanently display the head and antler rack of the largest poached bull elk in Pennsylvania history. The display has been made possible through the efforts of Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw, Jr., the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, who mounted the head and antlers.
