    Three road projects in Ottawa County are affected by a statewide work stoppage involving unionized engineers and a consortium of building contractors. Work has stopped on the resurfacing of James Street between US 31 and Chicago Drive on Holland's North Side, as well as along Osborn/Bass/Warner between 68th and 104th avenues in the Allendale-Robinson township vicinity, due to the lockout of Operating Engineers Local 324 by the Michigan Infrastructure Transportation Association over a collective bargaining dispute that began after the Labor Day holiday.

    The crash happened at near 44th Street, just east of Eighth Avenue in Georgetown Township just after 10:30 Sunday night, according to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sgt. Jay Douglas "A 29-year-old Wyoming resident, driving a 2010 Ford Fusion, was traveling eastbound on 44th Street when he struck a 14-yearo-old Jenison resident who was riding his bicycle in the roadway, near the center turn lane of the five-lane roadway," Douglas said.

    A 24-year-old Ohio man found himself in trouble with the law at the Ottawa-Kent county line overnight and couldn't flee from it. According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant Jay Douglas, a deputy had pulled over an SUV near the junction of Chicago Drive and Main Avenue in Jenison around 11:30 PM for a perceived equipment violation, but after stopping, the SUV sped off to the east towards Grandville.

    No names are being disclosed at this point after Ottawa County Sheriff's Captain Mark Bennett and his fellow deputies were alerted a couple of weeks ago about the man who was allegedly involved in "inappropriate and possibly criminal" incidents that occurred about two decades ago in Newaygo County. "Sheriff's detectives have been in contact with the Fremont Schools, where the Jenison teacher had been employed during the mid-1990's," Bennett explained.

    Distracted driving was apparently to blame for a two-vehicle crash in Jenison last night that hospitalized a 16-year-old motorist. According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant Matt Wildfong, Tyler Eekhoff of Ada was driving his car westbound on Chicago Drive just before 9 PM when he went through a red light at Main Avenue and smashed into the southbound vehicle of Misty Scott.
