    The Ashland Times-Gazette in northeast Ohio has named Andrew Dix as its new publisher starting Monday, taking over for Troy Dix, who will continue working for the corporation. The 42-year-old Dix also is publisher of The Daily Record of Wooster and The Daily Jeffersonian in Cambridge.

    Last Wednesday, the woman who was filling in for the stylist who regularly cuts my hair happened to mention that her kids were having Common Core testing that day. Until then, I'd only half-listened to recent news reports on the testing because, frankly, I'd quickly tired of the near-hysteria surrounding the issue: the doom-and-gloom, the politics, and what I considered the short-sighted obstinacy of parents who opted out of having their children tested using excuses ranging from their child's "anxiety" to predictions that he or she would be irreparably "damaged" if, perchance, his or her scores would not be up to snuff.

According to family, however, Michelle Evans moved to Texas in 2012 while she had full custody of the girl.
