The deputy was patrolling on Mono Way when he recognized 39-year-old Gina Cook of Jamestown, who is wanted on drug possession charges, behind the wheel of a van Thursday morning.

    According to Tuolumne County Community Resources Agency Supervising Engineer Tanya Allen, pre-construction meetings have begun with the recently awarded contractor, Sierra Mountain Construction, Inc., for roadway improvements and a traffic signal at the 5th Avenue at Highway 108/49 intersection as well as modify the existing Jamestown Road at 5th Avenue intersection. Allen shares that the next few weeks, which will consist of pre-construction fieldwork, is not expected to create any traffic impacts.

    The CHP has released new details regarding the two-vehicle crash on Highway 49 near the Montezuma Junction on Thursday evening where something went foul while officers were directing traffic around the wreckage. CHP Officer Joelle McChesney details that a Toyota Prius, driven by 72-year-old Laurie Perry from Vallecito, was being followed by a Toyota MR2, driven by 34-year-old Bobby Richard of Jamestown, when the two vehicles collided.

    Following an influx of state cap-and-trade carbon reduction grant funding, Tuolumne County Transit has started a new seasonal weekend bus service to Pinecrest Lake. Darin Grossi, Tuolumne County Transportation Council Executive Director, says a three year grant totaling around $45,000 in "Low Carbon Operations" program funding is allowing for the creation of this new service.

    A woman missed the brake, but hit the gas pedal and landed in her neighbor's residence and was flown from the scene with serious injuries. The CHP reports that 88-year-old Gina Vernazza of Jamestown was pulling into her drive way in a 2006 Ford at about 5 mph when instead of the brake she hit the gas.

    Two years in the making, the Jamestown Museum swings open its doors to the public for the first time this weekend for a limited look: hours are Saturday only from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. According to Jim Gormely, Rocca Park's self-described project manager, volunteer docents will be on hand to share their local knowledge and help explain the nature of the exhibits. At this point, he says, as a schedule has not yet been worked out the museum will have irregular hours that will depend on docents' availabilities.
