    At about 6:30 a.m., troopers with the Department of Public Safety responded to a fatal one-vehicle crash on County Road 4228, 4 miles northwest of the city of New Summerfield. According to DPS's preliminary crash investigation, a 1996 Ford Ranger traveling south on CR 4228 approached a curve in the roadway at an unsafe speed.

    Around 10 p.m. crews were called to Western Pulp Products on Bolton St. "It was reported that they found a glow coming from this side of the building," Jacksonville Fire Marshal Keith Fortner said. A glow that burned through half the night and continued to have hotspots throughout the morning.

    According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Carlos Brejhon Battle, 33, of Jacksonville was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison on August 2. Battle pleaded guilty on March 21, 2018 to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The U.S. Attorney's Office also reported Carton Deshan Johnson, 28, of Jacksonville was sentenced to 130 months in federal prison and David Lee Williams, 32, of Jacksonville was sentenced to 57 months on August 1. Johnson pleaded guilty on March 21, 2018, to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

    The man, Charles Edward Lennon Jr., 56, and his son, Charles Edward Lennon III, 29, are each charged with capital murder in the death of Rachel Lynn Jackson, 31. The arrest affidavit, made public on Tuesday, states Lennon Jr. called police on July 5 and asked for an officer to come to his house. The affidavit states Lennon Jr. told the officer he found a dead person in a trash can on his property and he believes his son, Lennon III, did it.

    A 10-year-old Rusk boy whose love of superheroes prompted a visit by Superman and Spider-Man that was captured in a Facebook Live video lost his battle with cancer Thursday night. Caleb Whiteley had been battling two types of cancer - acute myeloid leukemia and acute lymphoblastic leukemia - since April of 2018, according to Tara Nicole, a friend of Caleb's family.

Tonya Brown, 40, of Jacksonville, Mickey Cook, 40, of Rusk County, Armon Woodward, 32, of San Francisco, JModrick Taylor, 21, of Jacksonville, and Tatyona Rayson, 19, of Rusk have been charged with possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone.

    According to officials with the Texas Highway Patrol, around 6 a.m. Sunday troopers responded to a one-vehicle crash on Farm-to-Market Road 235 east of New Summerfield. Preliminary reports show the driver of a Yukon was traveling west on FM 235 at an unsafe speed into a curve in the road when the vehicle left the road slightly to the north.
