    Incumbents were the big winners in Tuesday's elections with Governor Andrew Cuomo, Congressman Tom Reed, and Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton handily winning another term in their respective offices. While the results were not surprising, the size of the gap between Reed's 58.57% of 23rd Congressional District voters and Tompkins County Legislator Martha Robertson's 35.34% following the very close race two years ago between Reed and Tompkins County Legislator Nate Shinagawa.

    On October 15th County Legislator Mike Sigler, representing Lansing on the Legislature, alerted the Lansing Town Board to a letter by County Planning Commissioner Ed Marx that could negatively impact development on and around Warren Road. Marx wrote a strongly worded letter urging that current natural gas users reduce their use and that the Energy Committee evaluate the feasibility if switching from natural gas to renewable energy sources.

    As a Delta flight to Detroit took off on Runway 32 late Saturday morning passengers on the right hand side of the plane could see another 50-seat Bombardier CRJ Series aircraft on the ground, surrounded by fire trucks and ambulances, with passengers being carried out on stretchers and firefighters scrambling to help victims of the crash. Of the 42 souls below, 8 were deceased on impact, 8 had serious injuries requiring immediate medical care, 11 had less serious injuries, and 15 escaped with only minor cuts and bruises.

    New York State has instituted a rebate to property taxpayers that theoretically makes up for the difference between last year's school tax and this year's. But the plan is complicated and requires local taxing authorities to not only keep below the so-called 2% tax cap, but to document and meet other requirements.
