    James Alan McPherson, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning story collection "Elbow Room" and a longtime faculty member at the University of Iowa's prestigious Writers' Workshop, has died. McPherson died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from complications of pneumonia, according to Iowa program secretary Deborah L. West.

    We have more information on a car accident that killed three people in Johnson County on July 5th. Iowa State Patrol says a car was driving in the wrong lane on 380 when it hit another car around 3:40 a.m. Iowa State Patrol says 21-year-old Jordan David Dietrich of Victor was driving southbound in the northbound lane on 380, when he lost control going onto the east shoulder, crashing into another car.

The collision occurred around 6:40 p.m. Thursday on the south side of Marengo, just south of U.S. Highway 6. The Iowa State Patrol says a sport utility vehicle started to go onto the road shoulder and its driver overcorrected and crossed the center line, hitting an oncoming car.
