    His mother, Gretchen Holland of Indianapolis, Indiana, and his father, Joe Etling of Terre Haute, Indiana, met at law school at Indiana University in the 1980s and just happened to spend their first date at a banquet in Indianapolis in 1989 to celebrate the Fighting Irish's 12-0 national championship season of 1988-89 that included Coach Lou Holtz and a few players. "We knew each other from law school, but that was our first date," Joe Etling, now an attorney in Terre Haute, said Saturday in Orlando, Florida, where his son Danny - born in 1994 - will end his successful college career as LSU's quarterback against Notre Dame at noon Monday in the Citrus Bowl on ABC.
