    Mount Union fell behind early and Juniata took advantage behind a late offensive surge from Ben Lauveron the way to a 46-32 victory for the Indians in the semi-finals of the Southern Huntingdon tip-off tournament Friday. Mount Union had difficulty right from the opening tip-off thanks to Juniata's full-court press, which forced the Trojans into committing turnovers that the Indians turned into easy baskets.

    Lewistown Borough has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program for local environmental and recreational projects, according to a press release from the office of state Sen. Jake Corman, R-Bellefonte. The grant is for development of the Juniata River Trail, which will include building a trail from Victory Park to Crystal Springs Avenue.

    A Huntingdon man faces vehicular homicide and other charges related to an accident that occurred Aug. 19, Huntingdon County District Attorney David Smith said in a statement. According to the news release, Pennsylvania State Police have concluded their investigation into the Henderson Township crash that claimed the life of Reuben Yoder, 18, of Allensville, and injured two others.

    The inaugural Out of the Darkness Community Walk will be held in Lewistown on Oct. 1. The walk, which was initiated by the Juniata Valley Healing Connections group last year in Huntingdon, will be held in two walk locations that run on the same day and the same time. The Lewistown walk will be at Kish Park and the Huntingdon walk will be at Juniata College, both at 1 p.m. Juniata Valley Healing Connections, which serves Mifflin, Juniata and Huntingdon counties, is planning the walks in conjunction with more than 375 walks being held nationwide this year.

    Noting that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death overall in the United States, the Mifflin County Commissioners on Thursday adopted a proclamation designating the first Sunday of October as "Suicide rates in Pennsylvania are above the national average and in the Juniata Valley, rates are comparable to those of the commonwealth," "The vast majority of suicides are precipitated by a treatable mental illness or mental health crisis. Rates of suicide can be reduced through awareness, education, intervention and proper treatment."
