    Authorities have positively identified a couple whose remains were recovered from the wreckage of a small plane that crashed more than 20 years ago in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Mackinac County Sheriff Scott Strait said Thursday the remains have been positively identified as those of missing couple Mark and Janet Davies.

    A former director of a nonprofit Michigan pet rescue shelter has been charged with animal cruelty several months after about 120 animals were seized by authorities. Seventy-year-old Sharen Kizer of Howell is scheduled for arraignment April 11 after being charged last week with one felony count.

    According to our media partners at WHMI, the anonymous donor has agreed to match all red kettle donations through December 23rd, and then all other donations through the end of the year, up to the $50,000. Christmas Eve is typically one of The Salvation Army's highest collection days but it falls on a Sunday, a day the nonprofit does not collect so officials say any boost in donations will make a huge difference.

    That investigation began last week after animal control started getting complaints that animals at the rescue were living in an unhealthy environment. Aimee Orn, the Director at Livingston County Animal Control, says officers removed 120 animals, including some dogs, cats and birds from the Last Chance Rescue and a home affiliated with the group.
